ABOUT ME - ANNE O'CONNOR (AAPS)
SOME HISTORY
About Anne 0'Connor
My first experience of photography was through my father Alan Bower, commonly known as Bill. He had a great interest in photography and did local wedding photographs in black and white, the main photographic medium of the time.

I became serious about photography around 1991. My interests moved over the years from black and white photographs to colour photographs. Now I use a standard 35ml camera as well as a digital camera, with skills in both.

WHAT I'VE DONE
My images have been used for calendars, postcards, books, and the promotion of the performing arts within Tasmania and for TasDance, a Launceston professional dance company. I have had articles and photos published in magazines

I have had photographs accepted for exhibition at various venues around Australia as well as in Europe and the United States. Some of my images have received awards for photographic excellence against entries from photographers around the world.

WHAT I DO
I do photo shoots for people, covering events that may include portraits, weddings and family photographs. I do freelance photography as well as freelance photojournalism. I sell images and have an expanding library of photographs containing images of Tasmania and some parts of Australia.

MY STYLE
I enjoy the use of natural light to record in photographs all things that are Australian. My passion is the promotion of our natural world, by showing the beauty of the environment. Another passion is telling a story with images.

With people photography, I like to capture the personality or character of the individual. With larger groups or couples, I like to capture the relationship that exists between them.

About Anne 0'Connor I like to get to know the people and understand where they are coming from. It is important to know what they are wanting from me in an image.

My photographic style is the natural style, preferring to utilize the elements that exist within the area that the photograph is to be taken.

I also enjoy using the camera to explore my creativity utilizing an impressionistic focus, with an emphasis on colour, texture, light and shade. This art form has a similar look to images created with pastels. It has the intention to invoke thought and stimulate the senses.

ASSOCIATIONS
I have been a member of the Australian Photographic Society for many years. Through them I have gained my Associate (AAPS), which is an honour award for photographic merit. I have participated in their photographic exhibition system, been a member of their folio groups as well as regularly attended the annual conference, known as APSCON.

Through the membership I have met many other skilled photographers and have expanded my knowledge of photography, continuing to develop different styles and ideas. To anyone wanting to learn more about taking photos, become a member and get involved. Other memberships include the Tasmanian Photographic Federation, Northern Tasmanian Camera Club and the Launceston Photographic Society.

MY AREA
Australia - particularly Tasmania.
Anne

Kevin Power - Passion For Pixels

Anne has assisted us frequently in adding something special to the image selections used in our calendars, books and postcards.

We are always eager to check through the stock shots she sends us. Her shooting covers the range of subjects we are looking for.

John Hanstein - Nucolorvue Productions Pty Ltd

Anne O'Connor created a series of images for our X-tinct production and these were projected and integrated into the performance.
The images reflected aspects of the Tasmanian landscape and clearly evoked the feelings that the choreographers Catherine Freeman and Trisha Dunn were dealing with.

Anne has a marvellous way of representing the natural environment and her work added a powerful and emotional element to the production.

Anne showed a very professional approach in creating such a strong portfolio of polished composition.
The colours and textures of her images were stunning.

Anne did a marvellous job in capturing both the beauty of the heritage setting for our wedding and images of our friends as requested.

We would highly recommend Anne as a photographer for your wedding.

Andrew and Fiona, 4th March, 2006

Anne made this special and important part of our wedding very easy to deal with. With all the work that lead up to our special day, and just knowing that it would fly by, it was great to know that such fond memories would be captured with such passion and enthusiasm. We wanted more action shots than posing shots, and that is what we got. Anne joined us on our rehearsal night and produced some amazing photos of emotions coming out, not to mention the emotions and memories on our Wedding Day.

Thank you so much Anne, you were amazing and I know that we will have fond memories of this day forever thanks to you.
